Head Shot Sessions
New profile pictures for LinkedIn, Instagram and wherever you need to supply an image of you that is friendly and approachable.
Why is a good picture of you important?
It’s 2024. I’m guessing that you have read all the bumpf out there about why a good head shot is a basic requirement of working life. As much as we don’t like to admit it, we do form an opinion of someone based on their picture. However, I’m a firm believer that a good profile image can also attract people you want to connect with, whether that’s for work or in your personal life. Despite all the tech in the world, we humans are pretty good at figuring out if a face is showing its true self. And long may that continue.
So, what makes a good headshot? First and foremost, it looks like you—authentic and recognisable. But more importantly, it feels like you. While a photograph is only two-dimensional, a genuine expression—whether you’re smiling or not—goes beyond that, carrying an intangible, unspoken quality. It captures something more than what can be seen, something that resonates. And when it’s done right, it only takes a moment to feel that connection (unless, of course, you’re a certain Miss Mona Lisa).
Hate the camera?
That makes two of us.
I feel your pain, I really do. I’ve been told that I’m a bit of a master of making a shoot less scary and downright enjoyable, even for people who would rather do their taxes than get a new head shot (no offence to the accountants out there).
I promise to not make you jump, dance or twirl if you are a bit of an introvert. Or force you to laugh your guts out. Because no one wants to see you with your guts hanging out. We’ll talk about the work you do and what you like about your world. I’ll give you space and time to be yourself, and capture snippets of you along the way.
How does it work?
I’m a fan of simplicity.
Get in touch and tell me what you need. For some it’s clear: a straightforward head shot for LinkedIn as part of a job search. For others, it may be more creative portraits that tie in with their work as a journalist or coach.
We organise a time and place to meet. There is no time limit to the session but 45 minutes seems to be a natural length for simple head shots.
After the shoot, I’ll send you a couple of retouched samples so you can see a fully finished image. The rest of the pictures go up into a web gallery.
You select your favourites. I work on those and send the files to you to download.
If you need more than a handful of images to sit alongside your blog or social posts, a more considered session may work better for you. This is where we hash out the type of images that would work well to connect with your audience.
We’ll work together and plan a shot list and pick some great locations to showcase who you are. This might mean bringing in a couple of friends (or even strangers!) to capture you consulting, on a work call, actively coaching or leading a workshop. The result? A personalized library of images that covers every aspect of your professional life.
So...you in? There's no better time than the present as the saying goes.
